Questions & Answers
Here’s What We Know
Does getting a tattoo hurt?
It does hurt a little. We apply a numbing cream to minimze any pain you might feel. If you have a low pain tolerance, choose a spot for your tattoo where there are fewer nerve endings: the back of the neck, the shoulder, the upper or lower back. Just ask us when you come in.
How much does a tattoo cost?
We’re a custom design shop, so we’re a little different than a traditional tattoo parlor. Our prices are based on 3 factors:
- Complexity of the Design
- Size of the Tattoo
- Location on the Body
Our work ranges from simple tattoos to extremely complex designs. We work from your art or create unique art based on your ideas. See our consultation page for more info on how we work.
Do you remove old tattoos?
Legally we’re not allowed to remove tattoos. But we are great at fixing a bad design or faded image. If you just want the tattoo gone for good – we’ll cover it up in a heartbeat with a custom design of your choosing.
I want a big tattoo - can we do it over multiple sessions?
Definitely. It’s better for you and for the tattoo artist. We break up large tattoos into smaller sessions, doing the outline, then the shading, then the color.
If I am under 18, can I get a tattoo?
No. Under North Carolina law, no one under 18 can be tattooed, even with a parent’s consent.
What do I need to do to take care of my tattoo after it's done?
We have a well defined program for after care – you should have a copy of it when you leave the shop. But you can review it here if you need to. LINK to PDF

If I am under 18, can I get pierced?
Under North Carolina law, you must be at least 16 and have permission from your parent or legal guardian. They have to come with you to the procedure.
Can I bring my own jewelry?
No, we’re sorry, but you can’t bring your own jewelry. When we do a piercing we use professional grade surgical-quality jewelry. Once your piercing has healed, we have lots of great jewelry at the shops. Stop by and pick up something you like.
Can I get my nipple pierced?
How do I take care of my piercing while it's healing.
It’s very important to take proper care of a piercing while it’s healing. We’ll provide instructions for you when you leave the shop, but here’s a copy if you want to print them. ADD LINK TO PDF
How does a tongue piercing affect my teeth?
There’s a good way and a not-so-good way to get your tongue pierced. A horizontal piercing, like a bar bell rod has a much higher chance of breaking or chipping a tooth. It’s your decision but we highly recommend that you choose a piece of vertical jewelry (like a ball for example) that doesn’t sit parallel to your teeth.
